Spurs Beat Grizzlies 106-103

Tony Parker posted 32 points and 5 assists and the San Antonio Spurs outlasted the Memphis Grizzlies, 106-103, in a double-overtime thriller at AT&T Center. Tim Duncan added 29 points before fouling out in the first overtime, while Manu Ginobili chipped in 20 points for the Spurs, who narrowly escaped with their fifth straight victory.

"It was huge for us to get this win tonight," said Duncan. "We had a great game at home, obviously Memphis played well. It took 2 overtimes to get the win and Memphis really turned it up in the second half. Tonight we just found a way to win."

O.J. Mayo logged 29 points, while Rudy Gay contributed 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Memphis, which has lost 5 of 6. Hakim Warrick added 16 points in the loss, and Marc Gasol recorded 15 points, 10 boards and 4 blocks but missed a potential game-winner in regulation and a late free throw in the first OT that could have made the difference.

"I hope this game brings us closer as a team. I hope the pain draws us together and makes us appreciate how much hard work it takes to win in this league especially playing a good team like that on the road, especially playing back-to-back as we've played numerous games like that and learned from every one of them," said Memphis coach Marc Iavaroni. "I was very proud of the guys as we battled it out in 2 overtimes with them and we just came up a little bit short, but hopefully this game galvanizes us."

Back-to-back Parker 20-footers pumped the Spurs' lead to 105-100 with 1:19 remaining in the second overtime. Mayo hit the Grizzlies' first field goal of the extra session, as his three cut the deficit to two points with just over a minute left. After a Parker miss and a foul on the floor, Mike Conley missed an open 3 for the lead. Gasol tipped away the long rebound before the Spurs knocked the ball out of bounds, and with just under 14 seconds left, Memphis held for the last shot.

Mayo put his head down and got into the lane, but Kurt Thomas blocked his scoop attempt and Michael Finley knocked away Gay's try at a putback. Roger Mason came up with the loose ball and Thomas nailed a free throw for the final margin.

The Spurs led 23-18 after the first quarter thanks to seven straight points to end the frame, but a 14-4 Memphis run in the second put the visitors ahead 49-42 at the break. Duncan's dunk midway through the third sparked a 12-3 San Antonio run and the game was tied at 66 heading to the fourth.

It was neck-and-neck throughout the final frame. A Mayo bucket and a Conley 3-pointer gave Memphis an 84-79 lead with 3:50 to play. The lead moved to 6 before Bruce Bowen nailed one from downtown and Parker converted a three- point play for an 86-86 game with two minutes left. Gay was then fouled and hit 1-of-2 from the line, and Parker drove the lane virtually uncontested for a layup and a 1-point Spurs lead. Mayo answered by nailing a 3-pointer as the shot clock was winding down for a 90-88 advantage with 1:01 showing on the clock, but Parker made a pair from the foul line to tie things yet again with 47.2 ticks to go.

Both teams failed on their next possessions, and Gasol missed a shot from the right elbow, extending the game another 5 minutes. The teams traded leads in the early going of the first overtime. Conley's 2 makes from the charity stripe gave Memphis a 98-97 lead with just over a minute left, and Parker's layup gave the hosts a 1-point edge with 29.2 seconds on the clock.

A blocking foul was called on Bowen with 7.4 ticks left, but Gasol hit just 1- of-2 from the stripe for a 99-99 score, and Parker's baseline jumper at the other end was off the mark and an extra session was needed once again.
