Milwaukee Bucks Beat Oklahoma City Thunder 98-87
Richard Jefferson scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Milwaukee Bucks spoiled the first regular season game in Thunder history, beating Oklahoma City, 98-87.
Michael Redd also scored 20 for the Bucks, who lost on the road to the Chicago Bulls Tuesday night. Charlie Villanueva was the other player with 20, and he also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
Chris Wilcox scored a team-high 15 points for the Thunder, who were playing their first game in Oklahoma City since moving from Seattle this past offseason. Reigning Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant went only 5-of-14 from the field - including 0-for-3 from long distance - and first-round pick Russell Westbrook contributed 13 points and four assists in the loss.
Milwaukee jumped out to a quick 18-7 advantage and never looked back. Andrew Bogut scored the first six points for the Bucks, and Villanueva added the next five in the first three minutes. Jefferson's three-pointer with 6:28 left in the first put the team in front by 11.
The Thunder cut the deficit to six on Johan Petro's layup a minute into the second, but the Bucks followed with a 21-9 burst, capped by Redd's three- pointer with three minutes to go in the half, and Milwaukee went into the break up 50-35. Redd had nine points during the run, and the Thunder missed all six of their field goal attempts.
The Bucks were able to coast through the third quarter, led by Villanueva's nine points in the frame. Milwaukee went up by as many as 24 after a couple of Villanueva free throws, hitting three of their first four three-point attempts in the half.
Oklahoma City went on a 12-8 run towards the end of the third, but Milwaukee went into the final frame with a comfortable 79-59 lead.
The Thunder came as close as 11 in the fourth quarter after Westbrook hit a three-pointer with 5:11 to play, but Milwaukee scored the next seven points and cruised to the victory.
