Marco Andretti to Make A1GP Debut
Marco Andretti will make his A1GP debut when the series visits China on November 9. Andretti will pilot the Team USA entry, which is owned by his father's IRL team, Andretti-Green Racing. This will mark the third different series Andretti will race in this season. He started 18 races and finished seventh in the IndyCar Series as well as making three starts in the American Le Mans Series.
"Getting to race in China is something I'm really looking forward to," said Andretti. "Although the A1GP program is new to Andretti Green, I thought that the crew did a great job with the first race. They had to put in a lot of effort just to get on track and they were able to get the car up to speed rather quickly. I know there is a possibility that the weather could add another element to the race and that should only make the race more challenging for the drivers and more entertaining for the fans."
Charlie Kimball competed in the season opening A1GP event in the Netherlands, finishing 10th in the feature race and eighth in the sprint event. Danica Patrick, Andretti's IRL teammate, is also expected to get some seat time in A1GP this year.
In other A1GP news, Team Pakistan says it will miss the next two races in China and Malaysia as they continue to prepare the car for new driver Adam Khan. During pre-season testing, Khan was unable to comfortably fit into the new powered by Ferrari car. Team Germany, the 2006-2007 A1GP champion, will also be missing from the starting grid as the team continues to undergo a management restructuring.
There's no word yet on if Canada's entry will make it to China after missing the season opening race due to the lack of availability of the new Ferrari-built car. Meanwhile, Great Britain, India and Mexico are all expected to join the series in China after skipping the season opening event.
