France and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery called his recent ankle-ligament tear the worst injury of his career and said he doesn't know when he'll be back on the pitch.
"It's no doubt the worst wound of my career," Ribery told l'Equipe newspaper in an interview published Wednesday.
He said it was impossible to predict a return date, but that he hopes to be back in September. He said he will miss a France friendly in Sweden on Aug. 20, as well as the first two qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup. However, he said he should be back in time to play against Romania on Oct. 11.
Bayern said Ribery would be out of action for as long as eight weeks after successful surgery on June 19 to repair the tear in the ligament of his left ankle.
Ribery suffered the injury when he fell awkwardly in France's 2-0 loss to Italy at the European Championship in June.
