Ajax Beats De Graafschap 6-0
Dario Cvitanich and Luis Suarez scored 2 goals each Sunday to help Ajax rout 10-man De Graafschap 6-0 and keep pace with AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch league. Defending champion PSV Eindhoven beat Feyenoord 1-0 after midfielder Ibrahim Afellay scored his 8th goal of the season in the 78th minute with a long-range shot.
On Friday, AZ beat FC Utrecht 2-0 to lead the league with 38 points as it chases its 1st title in 28 years. Ajax is next with 35, while FC Twente is third with 33, four ahead of PSV and NAC Breda. Douglas and Blaise N'Kufo scored in each half to give Twente a 2-0 victory over Willem II.
Ajax went ahead in the 10th minute when Cvitanich headed in Miralem Sulejmani's corner, and Sulejmani increased the lead two minutes later by turning in Eyong Enoh's cross.
De Graafschap's Joost Volmer was dismissed in the 35th for a foul on Cvitanich and Suarez converted a 53rd-minute penalty after he was fouled in the area by Purrel Frankel. Substitute Bruno Silva then played in Suarez for his second in the 62nd and Urby Emanuelson made it 5-0 with a fine volley.
Cvitanich completed the one-sided win with another header off Sulejmani's 70th-minute cross.
NEC Nijmegen, which is one of three Dutch teams left in the UEFA Cup along with Ajax and Twente, drew 0-0 against ADO The Hague.
On Saturday, it was: Roda JC 2, FC Groningen 5; NAC Breda 2, Vitesse Arnhem 0 and Sparta Rotterdam 4, SC Heerenveen 1.
FC Volendam stayed last with 11 points despite winning 3-1 over Heracles Almelo after goals from Dominique van Dijk in the 26th and 73rd minutes before Melvin Platje added another in injury time. Heracles' Vojtech Schulmeister scored in the 90th.
