Sonics' Allen out at least two weeks
SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Seattle SuperSonics All-Star guard Ray Allen will not accompany the team on its upcoming five-game road trip due to a bone bruise on his right ankle, the team announced Thursday.
Allen, who sat out Tuesday's win over Atlanta, underwent an MRI on Wednesday that showed no structural damage but revealed the bruise of the talus bone. He will remain in Seattle when the team begins its five-game trek at Milwaukee on Tuesday and be re-evaluated in two weeks.
The Sonics next play Friday at home against the New Orleans Hornets.
Allen played Saturday's game in Utah, but only after having SuperSonics trainer Mike Shimensky trim the orthotic insert in his sneaker. He scored 20 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter of a 109-107 loss.
However, the sharpshooter missed Monday's practice, did not play Tuesday and skipped practice again Wednesday. He did shoot after the practice.
Allen currently is 12th in the NBA in scoring at 25.3 points per game.
In his 11th season, Allen has averaged 21.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range in 753 games with Milwaukee and Seattle. Allen is second all-time to Reggie Miller with 1,798 3-pointers, including a league-record 269 last season.
