Baltimore Orioles
Update: With the steroids hearing now over, the Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro can continue to get ready for the season. The big
question that still needs to be answered at Orioles camp is who will close out games? Latest reports out of Baltimore are that Jorge
Julio and B.J. Ryan could open the season sharing the job. Canadian starter Erik Bedard is 3-0 this spring and has only walked three
batters in 21.1 innings.
Atlanta Braves
Update: Braves spring training has a real 2000 vibe about it. Chipper Jones is back at third base and has been sharp so far hitting
.412. John Smoltz has returned to the starting rotation after three years of being a closer, and hasn't missed a beat. Smoltz has
thrown 14 scoreless innings and has only given up nine hits.
Chicago Cubs
Update: The big stories thus far from Cubs camp all centre around the pitching staff. Kerry Wood and Mark Prior are both dealing with
injuries and both will miss at least their first start. Canadian Ryan Dempster and Sergio Mitre will start in their place, with
Carlos Zambrano getting the ball on opening day. After winning the closers job in camp, Joe Borowski fractured his wrist and will be
out until May at the earliest.
Chicago White Sox
Update: It's been a relatively uneventful camp for the White Sox, who seem set in both their starting rotation and starting eight
position players. The team received a scare when they thought that Mark Buehrle would be out 4-6 weeks with an ankle issue. In less
than 24-hours the injury was down graded to day-to-day and Buehrle hopes to take to the mound on opening day.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Update: Aside from the name change controversy, things have gone relatively smooth for the Angels. Jeff DaVanon might see time at
third base to start the season with Dallas McPerson not yet recovered from a herniated disc. Kelvim Escobar has been slowed with
shoulder tightness, but the right-hander should be ready for his first start.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Update: In a nice problem to have, the D-backs have two young catchers trying to be named the starter performing well in Koyie Hill
and Chris Snyder. Hill is hitting .333 while Snyder is batting .360. Some of the new faces are also performing well. Javier Vazquez
has only allowed one base-on-balls in 13 innings pitched. Troy Glaus has hit three home runs in 33 at bats with 16 RBI and a .424
average.
